About Us
How We're Helping
We are a community-based organization devoted to ecological principles in the building of a generation of Black Earth stewards, healers, activists, and imaginers of the new world that is being birthed from the chaos of our times. We have several amazing projects that we are working on, and need your involvement! There is our community garden project at Street Academy High School in Oakland which aims to create a community hub and food security model on site. Additionally we are creating a training institute and off the grid skills building center on the land in Mendocino County. We also have a wellness through nature connection program that we are building for urban based black youth and families experiencing nature deprivation.
Emerald Earth
In order for Black to the Land to truly carry out our mission, we always knew we needed a rural land base to truly be able to connect ourselves and our community to nature. We are incredibly excited that this base has materialized for us. The Emerald Earth Sanctuary, an intentional community created by White activists in 1989, on 189 acres of Redwood, Oak, Madrone, forest in the Booneville area of Mendocino County, on Pomo land, has asked us to take over land stewardship, and business management of the operation. We have been engaged in a nearly two year process of learning and sharing with the original Emerald Earth crew, and are slowly taking on more of the daily operations and moving our Black to the Land members on site. Many incredible possibilities are opening up, and we are grateful to be taking part in this joyous reparations process in which all sides benefit from the restoration of balance that this transfer represents. Please follow our progress, and stay informed of upcoming chances to be involved and to visit us at emeraldearth.org. You can also donate to support our work here.
